Koh Brothers Group Limited (“Koh Brothers”) gained its listing on the Main Board of the Singapore Exchange in August 1994 and has grown into an established construction, property developer and engineering solutions specialist. Mr. Koh Tiat Meng has played a key role in the development of Koh Brothers. The current Koh Brothers CEO, Mr. Koh Keng Siang, is responsible for formulation and implementation of strategic plans to establish its brand name as a one of the quality real estate developers.

Having first laid the bricks of its foundations as a sole proprietorship in 1966, Koh Brothers remains steadfast and has diversified regionally – Singapore, China, Indonesia, and Malaysia – to over 40 subsidiaries, joint venture companies and associated companies.

Through the years, Koh Brothers has completed numerous construction and infrastructure projects with A1 grading, which is the highest grade conferred by the Building and Construction Authority. Koh Brothers BCA A1 grading allows them to tender for public construction projects without limitations in value.

While honing and growing from its core expertise, Koh Brother made continuous efforts to become a real estate developer. Koh Brothers has completed several lifestyle-themed developments such as Singapore’s first cycling-themed residential development, Westwood Residences EC to the iconic Marina Barrage.

Koh Brothers Current Projects in 2018

In March 2018, Koh Brothers won the freehold Toho Mansion en bloc at S$120.40 million. The former Toh Mansion is an elevated site within a private enclave overlooking the Good Class Bungalow estate and strategically located to the popular Holland Village. Koh Brothers plans to create a refreshing concept that offers a seamless integrated experience to the Holland Village enclave, earmarked for a makeover and expansion through a new commercial and residential development at Holland Road.

Koh Brother continues to seek good opportunities to replenish land bank locally and abroad and build on its reputation as an unique lifestyle-themed developments. Koh Brother remains committed and open to collaborate with other property developer in pursuit of good risk management and efficient use of capital.

Koh Brothers remain positive as Building and Construction Authority (“BCA”) has projected the pipeline construction in 2018 between S$26 billion and S$31 billion, 60% of which will be for public projects. With a controlling stake in KBE and its suite of enhanced capabilities coupled with a strong track record in public and civil engineering projects puts Koh Brothers ahead of its competition.

In 2016, Koh Brothers identified emerging opportunities in the water and wastewater treatment and hydro-engineering sectors. In a bid to sharpen its niche in those sectors, Koh Brothers injected its flagship civil engineering arm, Koh Brothers Building & Civil Engineering Contractor (Pte.) Ltd., into our SGX Catalist-listed subsidiary, Koh Brothers Eco Engineering Limited (“KBE”).

Today KBE is a sustainable engineering solutions group that provides engineering, procurement and construction (“EPC”) services for water & wastewater treatment, hydro-engineering, bio-refinery and bioenergy projects.

Incorporated in Singapore in 1975, KBE begin its operations by providing EPC services for water and wastewater treatment projects as well as hydro-engineering projects. Today, its main market is in Asia with projects from both the public and private sectors.

Backed by a diverse 35-year track record in the water-solutions business, KBE has delivered numerous water and wastewater treatment projects in Asia for domestic consumption as well as industrial use within public and private sectors.

Their water treatment capabilities spans the entire process from primary, secondary and tertiary treatments to effectively remove suspended solids, biodegradable organics and pathogenic bacteria. The secondary and tertiary process removes the industrial wastes, toxic chemicals as well as unwanted nutrients that catalyse algae growth. The final waste products become an biodegradable organic load.

Some of the Koh Brother’s Notable Projects

The construction of the Marina East DBOO project is forecasted to be completed by 2020.

The scope of work comprise piling, civil, structural, architectural, landscaping and building services works inclusive of piping corridors and marine works for the desalination plant.

The piping corridors and marine works where the intakes and outfalls pipelines about 1.8km long. This will be designed and build by two pipe jacking where the intake pipe runs from Marina Reservoir to the Dual Flow Chamber. The open cut method applies for those pipeline which are closer to the ground level for safety considerations.

Other construction works involve earth works, sub-structures, superstructures, general architectural, landscaping, and building services works amongst many others.

Its bio-refinery and bio-energy division in Malaysia specialises in a full range of conventional edible oil process plants as well as biodiesel, pretreatment and winter fuel plants. Through a joint venture, KBE designs, builds and supplies biogas recovery systems to palm oil mill effluent plants in Malaysia and Indonesia.

KBE has been awarded the ISO certification since 2001, which serves as a testimony of its ability to deliver quality services and products. It has also attained ME11 L6 grading by the Singapore Building and Construction Authority flat allows it to tender for Singapore government contracts of unlimited value in this category.

The integration of synergistic businesses along the value chain has significantly increased revenue and profit margin, and improved the chances of winning important contracts.

Koh Brother is the single largest shareholder of KBE, a sustainable engineering solutions group that provides engineering, procurement and construction services for water and wastewater treatment, hydro-engineering, bio-refinery and bio-energy projects.

Deploying a strategic on-boarding of talented international staff strengthened Koh Brothers’ technical competencies and embraced new technologies to maximise the efficiency of its existing operations. It allowed Koh Brothers to compete increasingly complex projects which yield evident results when Koh Brothers won a contract from Construction and Building Materials division to construct a cut-and-cover tunnels connecting the future Prince Edward station to the existing Marina Bay station. The project known as Circle Line 6 was valued at S$225.4 million.

Koh Brothers went on to win a S$520 million joint venture project for the design and construction of the Deep Tunnel Sewerage System (DTSS) Phase 2 from PUB.
